The Relationship Between
Healing and Unconfessed Sin

by Inspiration Ministries

As a Believer, you know that God’s plan is for you to walk in a faith-filled Covenant Relationship with him. As one of His children, you also love and obey Him; and as your loving Father, He promises to bless you:

“Now it shall be, if you will diligently obey the LORD your God, being
careful to do all His commandments which I command you today,
the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the
earth. And all these blessings will come upon you and overtake
you if you will obey the LORD your God
(Deuteronomy 28:1-2).

God gives a long list of wonderful blessings for you, your family, your finances, and the work of your hands.

Health is one of the greatest blessings that comes as a direct result of your obedience:

“My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your sight, keep them in the midst of your
heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their
whole body
(Proverbs 4:20-22).

However, if there is hidden, unforgiven sin in your life, you will not be able to prosper in the way you were meant. Proverbs 28:13 makes this principle clear:

“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

Seeking His Mercy

To be clear, not every sickness or ailment is a result of sin. As a consequence of Adam and Eve’s rebellion, we live in a disease-ridden world where our bodies are vulnerable to germs and viruses.

However, if you have been actively pursuing God’s healing for some time and it hasn’t come, it might be wise to humble yourself before the Lord and find out if He is allowing you to suffer physically as a result of unconfessed sin.

James 4:16 clearly reveals the relationship between receiving healing and sin: Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”
