Searching

In how many ways can we be “lost”? Some are lost in a geographical sense. Others might be lost pertaining to their direction in life. And some feel confused or have made wrong choices.

From a Biblical perspective, the “lost” are those who have strayed away from God’s path and gone their own way. They may not even realize they are lost, but they clearly are. Others are lost because they have received poor guidance.

The Bible tells us that God is concerned for those who are lost. He specifically expresses concern about His sheep, promising that He himself will search for them, find them, and care for them.

Prophetically, God was speaking about Israel. But He also was referring to lost people throughout the world, as individuals or families.

We see the same passion in the ministry of Jesus. He told a parable about the shepherd who would leave 99 sheep to search for the one who was lost (Luke 15:4-7).

For people who are lost geographically, there is nothing more comforting than knowing they are being sought by a “rescue party.” They love to hear that help is on the way.

Showing His compassion, Jesus said He had “come to save that which was lost” (Matthew 18:11). For He was “the good shepherd” who “lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11).
