When a Nation Kneels Before God

When a nation kneels before God. Second Chronicles 6 shows the power of unified dependence on God—when a nation kneels before Him in humility and prayer, it acknowledges that nothing endures unless the Lord Himself builds and sustains it.

“Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and … knelt on his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven” (2 Chronicles 6:12–13).

After 20 years of work, the Temple was finally completed. On that glorious day of dedication, Solomon gathered the people of Israel before the Temple and blessed them. He reminded them of their history—how God had provided for them and directed them, how He had called Solomon to build the Temple, how He had “fulfilled his promise,” and how Solomon had “built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel” (v. 10).

Then Solomon lifted his hands in prayer and worship. He dedicated the Temple, asking God to be present there: “Let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place” (v. 40). And “as soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple” (7:1). God was pleased.

In a psalm of Solomon’s we read, “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1). He knew that this was true for the Temple just as it was true for every person, every project, and every nation.

And this is true for you! Commit everything in your life to God. Seek His wisdom, favor, timing, and provision. Pray for your nation and its leaders, churches and pastors, your home and family. Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit—a revival!
