Day by Day

While just a young girl in her native Sweden, Lina Sandell became paralyzed and confined to bed in her home. The doctors concluded she never would recover completely. But her parents always believed that God would heal her.

One Sunday morning while her parents were in church, Sandell spent intense time reading the Bible and in serious prayer. When her parents returned home, they were amazed to find her dressed and walking freely. She had been completely healed!

This experience transformed her life and inspired her to write poems and hymns about her love for God and all He taught her. In 1865, she expressed many of these truths in a hymn known as “Day by Day.”

She described how God gave her the strength she needed moment by moment. “Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.” She knew He was “kind beyond all measure” and gives us each day “what He deems best.”

She knew He was near, “with a special mercy for each hour.” She prayed that God would help her through every tribulation. She would continue to trust in His promises and stand on His Word until that day when she would stand face to face with Jesus.

Remember that God promises to give you what you need each moment of the day. Call on Him. Trust in Him for today and every day.
