Ready to Face God

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

“Ready to Face God” brings an eternal reality into focus—each life leads to judgment, yet through Christ you can stand with confidence instead of fear.

“It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time … to save those who are eagerly waiting for him” (Hebrews 9:27–28).

What happens when we die? According to a survey by the Barna Group, 81% of Americans believe in life after death. Most expect to spend eternity in Heaven, and “just one-half of 1% expect to go to hell.” But 24% admitted that they have “no idea” what will happen after they die.

In recent years, attitudes about death have undergone a significant change. As more people abandon biblical truth, they adopt beliefs from other religions or believe in whatever seems popular – even ideas from films, comic books, or TV programs.

But despite many views to the contrary, the Bible tells us with absolute clarity that we all are “appointed” to die, and after death, we all will face “judgment.” The Greek word here is the source of the English word crisis. Clearly, all of us are headed toward this crisis. Many people dread the thought of judgment, but God wants us to be freed from worry and fear. He is ready to give us peace and reassurance of eternal life – right now (1 John 5:13).

Each of us has only one life to live. And each of us will be called to account for the things we’ve said and done amid the opportunities God has given us. Are you confident in where you stand with God? You can be ready and free from all fear. Jesus died to take away your sins so you could be right with God.

Reflection Question: Are you prepared to stand before God today?
