Our Complex Problems

The world can seem so complicated. There are times when it seems like people are hopelessly divided, without common ground. Nations never seem to agree. Politicians seem to be constantly at war with each other.

How refreshing to read the Bible and get God’s perspective. This is the perspective of faith and trust, order and peace.

As a model, Jesus encouraged us to have childlike faith in God. He told us to have an attitude like a child in everything we do, not give in to worry, fear, or pride, and to humbly trust God as our Father (Matthew 18:1-6).

We see God’s designs clearly in the Garden of Eden before the fall. Adam and Eve had everything they needed and every pleasure that life could provide. Indeed, life was simple.

Then, Satan complicated their lives by suggesting that God could not be trusted, that they were better off following their own “devices.” They stopped obeying and trusting God, and embraced their own way. And all of us have been plagued with the same problem.

It can seem so hard simply to trust in God and believe His Word. But the Bible reminds us that this was His plan and desire from the beginning.

The world is filled with people who try to complicate life by suggesting that simple faith is unrealistic. In contrast, the Bible tells us, “God made man simple; man’s complex problems are of his own devising” (Jerusalem Bible).

How the world would change if more people simply trusted God and believed His Word!

Ask God to give you the faith to believe Him. Fill your mind with His Word. Confess His promises. Ask Him to help you simply trust Him. Simply to believe His promises. Simply to make Jesus your Lord. Always remember that you can ask Him for wisdom, and His help. It really is that simple.
