Nothing Undone

When Moses died, the Israelites faced many unknowns: How would they cross the Jordan River, and overcome the peoples in the land? Would Joshua be a good leader?

But God confirmed that Joshua was the right man, promising that He would be with him and exalt him (Joshua 3:7). Clearly Joshua had His blessings. He was successful because of these blessings, but also because “he left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses.”

We see here how he had learned from Moses, from his successes and failures. He knew what had happened when Moses doubted and disobeyed God. Joshua was determined not to make those mistakes.

His willingness to listen to Moses indicated that he was the kind of man who would also listen to and obey God. He had learned His commands, but also put them into practice.

Many Christians fail to experience the full blessings of God because they fail to have this wholehearted commitment. Learning from Joshua, we need to know His Word so our eyes might be opened to the riches He promises. But we also must put the Word into practice. As James said, we must “prove yourselves doers of the word”(James 1:22).

We are to obey God all the time, under every circumstance, no matter what He asks of us, even when it may not be popular or easy. As Joshua found, this might mean tackling a massive problem like the walls of Jericho. But we must believe Him and move forward in faith, learning from the past, seeking His guidance, depending on Him.

Your goal? To be able to look back at your life and say that you have “left nothing undone” that God has commanded you to do. Make this your commitment.
