Why Are People Interested In Heaven?Have you ever really spent time thinking about heaven? What will heaven be like? What really happens when we die? A lot of people today seem to have endless questions about heaven.
Some time ago, we had to put our dog, Smokey, to sleep and my wife Barbara was heartbroken. She would ask me, “Do I believe animals will be in heaven?” As much as I wanted to comfort her and assure her that they would, at the time I honestly didn't have an answer.
People are fascinated with the subject of heaven.
For some, it goes back to a loved one who died. And they wonder, will they ever see them again.
When you read Revelation chapters 21 and 22, you might be struck to ask, “how real, how tangible this place called "the new earth," is going to be… where we're going to live as resurrected people, on a resurrected earth”.
Many people associate a ghostly, disembodied experience with heaven. But Heaven isn't just some kind of sweet by and by, where you float up where the angels live. Heaven is a physical place where resurrected people will live in a resurrected body on a resurrected earth for all eternity with the Lord.
Barbara and I have grown up in the church. We’ve been Christians most of our life. We’ve had the privilege of meeting a lot of great people and leaders in ministry. We’ve read a lot of great books and studied the word of God ourselves. But even so, we said to ourselves, “why is it that we haven’t spent very much time individually or as a couple reading about Heaven, studying about Heaven, and asking what’s Heaven going to be like?”
I’m going to share with you throughout this series of videos not what other people’s opinions are about Heaven. Not what other spiritual leaders have had to say about what Heaven is going to be like. But as best I can I’m going to share with you what the Bible itself says about Heaven.
You can count on God’s word. What it says is true. We’ve missed so much of what the Bible says about the world to come. And that’s one reason why people end up thinking Heaven is going to be a boring place. They think there will be nothing to do but float around for all eternity. But that’s not what the Bible says. The resurrection is the exact opposite of floating around. We’re going to be resurrected people living on a resurrected earth with resurrected culture serving Him.
Friend, there is so much more to heaven than you may realize. Stay with me for this entire series as I take you into the scriptures to answer some of the most important questions about heaven.
I’m continuing this series tomorrow when we’ll look at the question, “Is heaven even a real place?” I think you’ll find the answer fascinating.
God bless you.
