Watch Time to Shine with Kim Crabill

Each day reminds us of what we don’t have. Have you noticed that? The reminders are everywhere. On TV, the radio, and all over social media. It’s in our emails and our snail mail, especially those fabulous glossy catalogues and magazines.

We’re bombarded with messages about new tech toys, fabulous vacation packages, designer shoes, and the color of the year that we need to redecorate our entire house with. The list goes on and on and on, and before we know it we’re comparing what we don’t have to what others do have and the mental downward spiral begins. And the longer we linger there the deeper the plunge and the darker the things around us begin to look. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

Then we sit and have our quiet time. And then we open our Bible to Hebrews 13:5 and read, “Be content with what you have.” Wow. Now, that’s a shift in perspective, isn’t it?

What might happen if instead of noticing what we do not have, we take a long look around at what we do have? All the many blessings God has supplied like that health scare that turned out to be treatable. Or that day when you felt so alone and a friend called at just the right time. Remember that overdue bill you couldn’t pay. Didn’t God provide unexpectedly?

It is so easy to dwell on what God has not yet provided and lose sight of what He has already given. That’s truly the battle we face in our materialistic, me-me-driven world – that you and I as believers have the great opportunity to be so different. To be content.

When we really start to recall all that we have, we find that contentment is there. And that contentment is one of those qualities that really shine. Have you ever thought about that? As you’re choosing to live with contentment, you shine on all the people you encounter each day who may be feeling lost in the darkness of discontentment. But you as a grateful heart will be the very contagious in this world.

Take time today to personally look at your Scripture and be content with what you have. We can do this by thanking God for all that He has already provided. You know what else we can ask for? We can ask for another provision from God – an opportunity to share with someone why our hearts are so grateful today. Be strengthened in your walk today and find your time to shine by being content.
