Sonship of the Believer: As He Is So Are We

John AvanziniBy John Avanzini5 Minutes

Praise the Lord, child of God. My name’s John Avanzini. It’s good to be with you today. Welcome to Strengthen Your Walk.

I want to deal with something that’s a very unique piece of information in God’s Word. It’s when you start with 1 John: “It’s beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it doth not appear what we shall be; but we know that when He shall appear we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

Think about that. We’re gonna be like Him as He is. How do you walk like He walks? How do you operate in this earth? How did He operate in this earth? Think with me a minute. Go back into 1 John and look at 4:17. It says, “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment because as He is, so are we in this world.”

Think about that. As He is, so are we in this world. Well, how was He in this world? Notice please, and it’s such a unique thing that takes place in John the third chapter – when you’re through with John 3:16, which gets so much attention – but just a little bit before that you have John 3:12-13. It says, “If we have told you earthly things and you believed not how should you believe if I tell you heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven but He that came down from heaven even the son of man which is in heaven.”

What we’re being told here is that Jesus walked in two dimensions simultaneously. He walked in the heavenly dimension and He walked in the earthly dimension simultaneously. You may think, How in the world can I do that? Think about it for a minute. You’re spirit, soul, and body. You’re two-thirds spiritual. To walk the way God would have you to walk the odds are stacked that you would be able to do that easier.

It’s not like some believe that you’re just spirit and body, but we know from God’s Word that you’re spirit, soul, and body. You are a person that is stronger to the spirit side. That means that just like Jesus walked on the earth, simultaneously He was walking in the heavenly realm. And just like you walk on the earth you go to your job. That’s a very earthly thing. You drive through the traffic. That’s a very earthly thing. But in that process, you can also be walking mentally. And in your spirit and in your attitude, you can be walking in that heavenly dimension. You can walk like He walked.

I love that when you think about how He walked, it says, “and no man has ascended up to heaven but the Son of Man, which came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven.” Jesus walked in two dimensions simultaneously. And now He says, “You do it as a believer. You do it also.”

Yes, you have to go to work. Yes, you may have to go to the dentist. Who wants to go to the dentist? But you can walk in two dimensions at once. You can have that spiritual walk with the Lord and at the same time walk with people. And then you will let those principles that He used as He dealt with people – kindness, gentleness, and meekness – be. And all of a sudden you’ll find yourself as He is, so are you, in this present world. Walking in two dimensions at once.

Thank you.
