Safe Within Your Shield

Safe Within Your Shield

“You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor. You will surround him as with a shield.” – Psalm 5:12

As Psalm 5:12 points out, the favor of the Lord is like a shield that surrounds and protects a believer on every side. No matter what difficulties or challenges may be coming against you today, you can be confident that you are absolutely safe under the Lord’s favor.

When we cultivate God’s righteousness, then His favor encircles and protects us like a shield on every side. It shields us against the pressures of life. It comes between us and the forces of evil that seek to destroy us—forces too powerful and cunning for us to deal with in our own strength or wisdom. We have no #protection against these forces except the invisible, but also invincible, shield provided for us in the Lord’s favor.

The favor of the Lord also is typified by the cloud of His presence. Proverbs 16:15 says, In the light of the king’s face is life; and his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain.” So, when you have the favor of God on you, you are walking under the cloud of the latter rain.

Proverbs 19:12 further tells us: The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion; but his favor is like dew upon the grass.” So, God’s favor is like a cloud of the latter rain, and it is also like dew on the grass. You never need to be spiritually dry when you are walking under God’s favor!

Imparting God’s Blessings

If you walk in the favor of the Lord, you are able to impart His blessings to other people (Genesis 12:2). You can take the cloud and the dew of His favor with you wherever you go. What could be a greater privilege than that?

Every humble child of God who walks under the cloud of His favor is a “rain bringer,” precipitating His grace and His blessings to everybody he comes in contact with. There is a special fragrance about him, a unique presence within him—something overshadowing him that goes everywhere he goes.

The apostle Paul describes this as “the fragrance of Christ”:

Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:14-15).

God is still searching throughout the earth to find those whose hearts are fully His (2 Chronicles 16:9). When He finds such people, He will show Himself strong on their behalf, manifesting divine favor in and through them for all the world to see. Let us choose to be such people.
