Do You Want an Intimate Relationship with God?

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries3 Minutes

Just as you spend time building human friendships and relationships, you need to give God the same attention. You need to give Him Heaven-moving, earth-shaking, hell-defeating prayer, all of which involves a commitment of your time.

Too many people treat prayer as if God is operating a fast-food, drive-through service where they can place an order and pick it up within a matter of minutes, if not less. And then on they go, driving down the road.

But it doesn’t work that way. If you truly desire an intimate relationship with God, there are no shortcuts!

The way to get to know Him and experience His power is to spend time in His presence. This comes through praise and worship, reading His Word, and talking with Him in prayer.

Think about it this way: you can’t get to know someone simply by thinking about them. It requires talking in-depth with them. That’s where spending time with the Lord comes into play.

Having a Healthy Prayer Life

Many Christians have an anemic prayer life because they don’t understand the need for persistence in their prayers. In Luke 18, Jesus tells the story of a widow who is trying to get justice from an unjust judge. He isn’t at all inclined to help her, but eventually she wears him down by her persistence.

God is NOT an unjust judge; He’s your loving Heavenly Father. However, Jesus tells this story because He wants us to learn the importance of perseverance in our prayers. The underlying message is to not give up on your prayers if they aren’t immediately answered!

God wants you to take your prayer life deeper than the “Now I lay me down to sleep” bedtime rhyme. He wants you to experience the kind of prayer that defeats the devil, heals the sick, raises the dead, restores broken marriages, destroys addictions, delivers the downtrodden, sets captives free, and glorifies the Lord!

This kind of prayer life is not wimpy, half-hearted, wishy-washy, or apologetic. It’s as bold as a lion, bright as the sun, strong as an ox, and as stable as a mountain. It refuses to give up or back down in the face of diversity.

And it all begins with the foundation of your relationship with the Lord. If you believe there are areas where you could deepen your level of intimacy with Him, click on the link below to find a resource to help you in this journey.
