Can God Hear My Prayers?

Melissa HendersonBy Melissa Henderson4 Minutes

What happens when I pray? When I pour out my heart and soul, is God really listening? Do I have to speak out loud or can my prayers be given in my thoughts? Have you ever wondered if God can hear your prayers? Read on and find the answer. Be assured God is always listening.

As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. (Psalm 55: 16-17 NIV)

Times of distress and heartache come. Situations we don’t understand. Unexpected illnesses, unforeseen accidents, tragedies, wrong choices by ourselves and/or loved ones, and more can bring us to our knees with worry. Tears of sadness flow freely as we try to catch a breath and continue. We cry out to God for help and comfort.

But, have you ever wondered if God hears your prayers? Do we have to say our prayers out loud or can we pray silently, speaking to God in our thoughts? These questions have been pondered over and over. What happens when the words won’t come and you can’t speak them out loud or even in your thoughts?

God knows our hearts. During those tough times, I have simply said, “Help me, God.” I have felt a sense of peace come over me when I speak or think those words.

Going to God first can bring a comfort that only He can provide.

Answers can be found in reading His Word. Scripture is filled with the promises of God. His love never leaves us. His love never fails us. His promises are forever.

Searching the Scriptures, we find examples of people crying out and asking God for answers.

From Moses to Job to Paul and more, cries to God have been expressed. God always listened and is still listening today.

We can be assured and comforted knowing God promises to hear our prayers. His love and promises are comforting.

His answer may not be the one we hoped and prayed for. His answer may be yes, no, or not yet.  Don’t be discouraged. Peace is found in giving our worries to Him and not taking those worries back. He is listening. He will answer, according to His will and in His timing.

As we pray, we know He is preparing the way for His will to be done.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 tells us to “Rejoice always, pray continually.”

In your prayer time, whether spoken out loud, whispered or in your thoughts, know that your words are being heard by God. He is listening to your prayers. He knows your pain, your sadness, your worry.

God hears prayers of thanksgiving and joy, too. He not only hears our sorrow. He hears our gladness and joy, too.

God will comfort all who come to Him and ask for His guidance. He is waiting with open arms. Yes, He is listening and hearing the prayers of all. And as you pray and feel His peace, remember to give thanksgiving to Him and rejoice in His love.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4 NIV)

Thank you God for hearing our prayers. Amen.
