Are You Snared by the Words of Your Mouth?

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries3 Minutes

We all have promises and blessings that we’re hoping for and believing in.

But sometimes it seems as though nothing is changing in our lives, and instead of staying focused on the promise of God’s blessings, we talk ourselves out of what we know to be true. We find ourselves saying things like, “I’ll never get that job” or “My husband will never come to Christ.”

Our words end up keeping us from the promise of things to come. You see, the moment we speak something out of our mouth or believe it in our heart — good or bad — we’ve given life to it.

The key is to not verbalize the negative that you may be thinking. Do not speak it. If you’re not going to say anything good about your health, your children, your finances, or your future, then refrain from saying anything at all.

This concept is underscored by Proverbs 6:2-15 which tells you that if you become “snared by the words of your mouth … disaster will overtake you in an instant.”

Instead, look to Proverbs 3:5-8 which tells you:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes.

You have to trust that the Lord will fight for you, and you have to be silent in the process (Exodus 14:14).

So often we’re motivated by our needs when it comes to our relationship with God. We may go through the motions of worship, but beyond those times, we find ourselves lamenting over the unfulfilled needs in our life. Do you find yourself including requests in your prayer time like, “Give me this, God,” or “I need that, Lord” instead of letting yourself fully trust in His plan for your life?

You can’t be split between honoring the Lord and bemoaning the lack in your life at the same time. You must seek the Lord with all your heart before you will ever find him (Jeremiah 29:13). And if there’s grumbling in your heart, there’s little room left to pursue Him.

Although God loves you and is heartbroken over the needs in your life, He doesn’t respond to needs; He responds to faith-filled, loving, obedience, and the intimacy of your relationship with Him.

If you’ve found yourself consumed by the worries of today instead of the glory of God’s love, take time now to renew your commitment to Him that you have placed Him above all else. It’s only then that the snare which has been holding you back from receiving His blessings will forever be unlocked.
