It’s one thing to say you’re trusting God when you are on the mountaintop and everything seems to be going your way. But it’s another thing when you’re stuck in the valley and God’s blessings seem hard to find. Will you trust Him then?
The Bible contains numerous stories of men and women of God whose faith was tested. They had to make a decision to trust and obey the Lord even though their breakthrough seemed distant.
Perhaps you’re going through a difficult season in your life right now, and your faith is being tested. Maybe you don’t see any way you can sow a financial seed into God’s Kingdom. It just seems too difficult.
Yet I’ve discovered a surprising truth over the years: As hard as it may be, one of the surest ways to find victory in your winter season is to sow generous, sacrificial seeds. That may seem to run against all human logic, but it can be a powerful key to your new beginning in victorious living.
Remember, you are a walking warehouse of seeds. Everything you have is either enough (your harvest), or it’s the seed you must sow in order to produce your more-than-enough harvest. I encourage you to follow the example from the Parable of the Sower today and exercise your miracle-working faith … sow a supernatural seed into God’s Kingdom, and wait to see what He will do (Luke 8:15).
This isn’t just a nice theory for my family and me. It’s something we’ve endeavored to practice throughout our years of walking with the Lord. When we’ve had a big need, we’ve sown a big seed. And we’ve seen God do amazing things in response to these simple acts of faith and obedience – not only in our own lives, but also in the lives of our friends and ministry partners.
No matter how dry and barren the fields may look around you, I’m fully confident of this: God will honor your faith … your obedience … and your expectancy. He encourages you to put His promises to the test and trust Him. He will give you a bountiful harvest from the seeds you sow into His Kingdom.
I’ll never forget sitting as a young boy in my dad’s evangelistic crusades and seeing the demonstration of God’s miracle-working power. I vividly remember an old song the choirs used to sing, “Only believe, only believe, all things are possible, only believe!”
A great example is found in Mark 9, when a man brought his son to Jesus to be healed. The boy was demon possessed and unable to speak. The root of his speechlessness was not physical, but rather spiritual. Jesus said to the boy’s father, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (v. 23). With tears streaming down his face, the father replied, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (v. 24).
Breakthroughs from God are the result of bold, obedient faith – the exact opposite of fear, doubt, and passivity. Instead of being afraid, we must release our faith and boldly confront the mountains in our lives. We need to cry out, “Lord, with You all things are possible. Lord, if Your Word says it, then I believe it. Lord, help my unbelief!”
When we cry out to God in this way, our faith will rise up to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of our destiny. Jesus tells us to speak to the mountains in our way and expect them to move (Matthew 17:20)! He’s doesn’t tell us to sit back and let our life drift with the wind – He tells us to take action and confront our spiritual enemies with an unconquerable confidence in God!
Today, Satan is launching a major assault against our faith, trying to instill fear and get us to waver in our trust in the Lord. He wants us to put our eyes on our circumstances or the world’s economy rather than on God’s faithfulness to His Word.
If you keep your eyes focused on your problems and the “mountains” in your way – whether they are financial, physical, or relational – the enemy will use your problems to plant fear and doubt in your mind and spirit. He will use your circumstances to accuse God and try to discredit His Word. Instead, keep your eyes focused on the Lord, on His Word, and on His ability to do ANYTHING!
Smiling at Your Future
In recent years, I’ve met many believers who have very dreary outlooks on their future. This is sad because God is clear about His plans for His children, “plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for” (Jeremiah 29:11 MSG).
What about you, my friend? When you think of the future, how do you feel? Concerned? Fearful? Anxious? Or filled with excitement and hope – confident you are living in the favor of God?
It breaks my heart to see so many Christians wringing their hands in fear over the world’s economy … or a pandemic…or terrorism when God offers us keys to live in victory despite any outward circumstance around us!
Instead of hanging our heads in despair or waiting on an answer from the government, we can model the amazing testimony of the faith-filled woman described in Proverbs 31:10-31:
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future (v. 25 NASB).
Just as He did for this virtuous woman … God wants to strengthen YOU, so you can SMILE at your future! When you have the Lord’s favor and make Him your dwelling place amid life’s storms and shakings, you can rest confidently in His provision, smiling instead of fretting! The Scriptures promise, “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you” (Psalm 91:7).
This means looking to God as your hope and source – not to the resources or news headlines of the world.
This Proverbs 31 woman was confident in God’s provision for her future, but that didn’t mean she sat idly by, waiting for a supernatural harvest when she hadn’t planted anything! We’re told she had bought a field and “plant[ed] a vineyard” (Proverbs 31:16). And as God had blessed her, she was determined to be a blessing to others: “She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she stretches out her hands to the needy” (v. 20).
In the same way the Lord blessed this woman in Proverbs 31, He promises to bless you when you reach out to the least and the lost (Proverbs 19:17). He will pay you back for every seed you’ve sown – giving you an abundant and overflowing harvest!
God bless you!
