Your Strong Tower

In the 13th century, the Mongol Empire stretched across the entire Eurasian landmass. Everywhere they went, these ruthless conquerors aggressively imposed their will, particularly on those who would not surrender. Eventually, they turned their attention toward Japan.

Irritated at the treatment they received from the Japanese, the Mongols decided to invade that island. The Japanese only were spared the resulting assault when a storm destroyed much of the invading Mongol fleet.

But the Japanese did not waste their opportunity or take their victory for granted. They prepared for what they believed was an inevitable attack by building a stone wall around their shore to defend their country. In 1281, the Mongols returned with 140,000 men. However, because the Japanese were ready, the Mongols could not breach the defenses. And they never threatened Japan again.

Each of us needs defenses in our lives against the attacks of the enemy. We can be sure that these attacks will come. The Bible says that “some boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God” (Psalm 20:7). The Bible encourages us to remember that we can trust in the Lord. He is our strong tower, and if we rely on Him, we will be safe.

Today, make sure you are prepared for attacks. God is ready to protect you and give you His peace. Fill your mind with His Word, and declare His promises to be true in your life. Be sure to depend on His Spirit.

Persistently seek God in prayer for the decisions you must make. Ask for His power and wisdom. Continually trust Him in every situation. He is faithful and will keep you safe against the attacks of the enemy. Make Him your strong tower!
