Your Passover Lamb

On the night He was betrayed, Jesus made certain that He and His disciples celebrated the Passover first. This was not just a ritual or custom. This celebration was God’s command (Leviticus 23:5).

The Passover is a symbol of Jesus’ sacrificial death. He is the “Lamb of God” (John 1:29) who died for the sins of all humankind. And today, we are redeemed “with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:19).

The blood that Jesus shed for us also demonstrates the protection and power of God. It reminds us that, during Passover, by putting the blood of a “lamb without blemish” on their doorposts, the Israelites were protected from judgment and death (Exodus 12:1-12 NKJV). Similarly, Jesus died that “He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14).

Passover, which begins tonight at sundown, remains an event of great importance. We can celebrate Passover by remembering Jesus’ death on the cross and by accepting His finished work. And we can appropriate the power of His blood for protection and healing.

Remember that Jesus died for you. Because of His sacrificial death, your sins are forgiven. He rose again that you might have eternal life. Do not allow sin to rule over you. And do not be discouraged or filled with doubt or fear. You have victory through Jesus!
