Your Calling

As Israel’s gatekeepers were given assignments, some were asked to guard the walls. For people in that culture, this was a critical responsibility. Those called to this task were required to be on alert constantly against encroaching enemies, of any kind. Each Levite was assigned to guard a specific section, and assigned to a specific team. “Guard was alongside of guard.” No man was alone.

God had promised that when people worked together, their effectiveness increased exponentially: “Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight” (Leviticus 26:8).

But there are other reasons for working as a team. When we are alone, it is easier to be tempted. And we are more vulnerable. When we work as a team we can check on and reinforce each other. Each of us has different gifts, talents, and perspectives so we can complement each other. We help remind each other of dangers and problems. Working together as a team can help us stay focused.

These same principles apply to our lives as members of the Body of Christ. We need to serve Him, and the rest of the Body, in the roles to which He has assigned us, working together in harmony and unity with Christ as the head.

In your life, remember that God has a special calling on your life. That you are unique. But always remember that you are part of the Body of Christ. Seek to fulfill your place in the Body. Working together with your brothers and sisters to accomplish His work.
