What God Has Ordained

“Have you not heard how I ordained long ago what now I have brought to pass.” 2 Kings 19:25 Amplified Bible

As Assyria threatened Judah, King Hezekiah cried out to God for help. In response, He sent Isaiah to deliver a message: “Because you have prayed to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.” God told Hezekiah that He was listening to his prayers. That “long ago” He knew what would happen. He had ordained what He was bringing to pass.

Hezekiah, trapped in time, could not have had that degree of confidence in God. But He wanted to assure the king that He was beyond time. Even “declaring the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10 NASB).

It is difficult for us to comprehend the timelessness of God. In our flesh, we do not know what will happen from moment-to-moment, but He exists outside of time. His sovereignty is so complete that He even can ordain events, and order them into a sequence of His choosing.

This is why He wanted Hezekiah to know that he did not need to be afraid of Assyria. And it is why we can have faith in Him, and entrust our lives to Him.

Today, are you carrying any burdens about your life and the situations you are going through? Are you depending on your own human reasoning? Are you allowing events to control you, and worrying about what will happen? Or are you trusting in God? No matter how things appear, you can know that God has “ordained long ago” what He is bringing to pass.

Commit all of your needs to Him. Do not give in to despair or worry, but trust Him. Bring your worries to Him in prayer, and praise Him for His answers! And focus your energies on obeying, serving, and trusting in Him. Allow Him to take your burdens away, and give you His peace.

Prayer: Father, help me to trust in You. Thank You that You have a plan for my life. Help me to obey You and serve You with all that You have given me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
