Waiting on God

“Woe to him who says to a piece of wood, ‘Awake!’ To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’ And that is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all inside it. But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him.” Habakkuk 2:19-20 NASB

How difficult it can be to wait for answers. What we really want is to get our own way. It can seem inconvenient to have to wait on God.

In our flesh, we might understand why idols could seem attractive. These hand-made objects had no breath, but they could be manipulated to say whatever a person might want.

But God was different! He was holy! The sovereign Creator. He was to be feared and worshiped. So different from the idols of the world. Habakkuk declared this basic truth: “The Lord is in His holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him.”

Many people today have a difficult time honoring and worshiping God. It is more common to take Him for granted. Not to wait on Him. Not treating Him with holiness. In fact, many have created their own kind of idols. Listening to their own “gods.” Living by their own standards. Deciding for themselves what is “right.” Trusting in things that satisfy their desires rather than the timeless principles of a holy God. But the words of Habakkuk still ring true.

Yes, He is our Heavenly Father and wants a personal relationship with us. But we always must remember that He is not an idol we can manipulate. He is our Judge and Creator. Pure, righteous, and perfect.

In your life, never take God for granted. Make sure that He has first place in your heart, and your highest priority. Approach Him with reverence, seeking Him with a humble heart, filled with praise, worship, and thanksgiving. Always remembering that He is holy. That He is God.

Prayer: Father, You are awesome and mighty. Thank You for being merciful to me. I humble myself before You. Help me to serve You with my life. I worship You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
