Victory over Your Enemies

God had been displeased with His people. In fact, David felt that He had cast them off, broken them down, shown them “hard things,” and made them “drink the wine of confusion.” David cried, “Give us help from trouble.” He realized that “the help of man is useless (NLT). Their only hope was to turn to God.

They experienced short-term problems, but God wanted them to achieve complete victory. To be victorious in all circumstances, all the time. David proclaimed that God would enable them to “do valiantly.” He did not have to worry about their enemies, for God Himself would tread them down!

We need to remember that God desires for us to experience victory in our lives. We see this when Paul wrote that “in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). As John wrote, “Whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” (1 John 5:4).

You may face a mountain of problems, and needs that seem overwhelming. You may have decisions to make and not be sure what to do. You may be concerned about turmoil in the world or burdened for others who need salvation, deliverance, or healing.

In your flesh, you may feel overwhelmed or discouraged. You may want to give up hope. But you need to remember that God does not want you to accept defeat.

Today, declare His promises in your life, and stay faithful to His Word. Fellowship with Him. Commit your concerns to Him in constant prayer. Abide in Him, aware of His presence. Then trust Him. And believe Him for victory! Through God, you will do valiantly, for He will tread down your enemies.
