Turmoil

Turmoil

God was ready to send judgment. His people had rejected Him and failed to obey Him. But judgment also was coming because they had more “turmoil” than surrounding nations. The Hebrew word here implies a great commotion. A loud, unpleasant sound.

This is the opposite of God’s desire, for He hates disorder. We see this when He brought order to an earth that was “formless and void” (Genesis 1:2). He commanded us to “seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14). And He desired that all things in the church are to “be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40).

Peace comes to those who trust completely in Him and live according to His Word. Yet many forget these simple truths and are quick to complain, worry, and go their own way. This leads to a life filled with commotion.

If we understand God’s desire for order and peace, then we can see why our complaints offend Him. He desires that we believe His Word and trust Him, knowing He will fill our lives with joy, peace, fulfillment, and contentment.

Is there any turmoil in your life? Have you allowed the world to shake your confidence? Have you become unsettled by what other people say or do? God has given you His Spirit. Commit your needs to Him. Make Jesus the Lord of your life. Live according to His Word. Allow Him to fill you with peace.
