Too Difficult?

Lord Kelvin was one of the giants of science in the 19th century. Among his many contributions, this Scottish mathematician and physicist introduced a temperature scale that begins at absolute zero. This still is known as the “Kelvin scale.” His brilliant mind could grasp concepts beyond the comprehension of most people.

But in 1892, as he considered the idea of flight, Kelvin concluded that “heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible.” Based on his experience and understanding, this brilliant man could not conceive that human flight was possible. Yet within just a few years, the first airplane flight took place. What seemed impossible proved to be possible, and now air travel is considered part of ordinary life.

Sarah and Abraham, too, had limited understanding about a situation that seemed impossible. She was “past the age of childbearing” and “laughed to herself” when told that she would have a son (vs. 11-12). But God responded, “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” What seemed inconceivable to them was possible for God. Just as was foretold, the miracle took place, and Sarah gave birth to Isaac.

How easily we can allow our understanding to place restrictions on what we think God can do! How often we limit Him by assuming that some things are too hard or simply “impossible.” We easily can forget that God has no limitations.

Today, you may be facing situations that seem hopeless or problems without apparent solutions. But the Bible tells us that God can do anything!

Do not limit your expectations of what He can do for you. Declare His promises to be true, and allow faith to rise in your heart. Pray with boldness, and believe that His infinite power is available for your life. Remember: Nothing is impossible for God!
