The Invitation

Everything is ready. All the preparations are complete. The benefits are available to be enjoyed. Finally, the invitation has been announced.

While “everyone” can come, this invitation is filled with promises particularly appropriate to those who are “simple.” The Hebrew word suggests people who are gullible. Who do not have deep roots and can be easily persuaded. Who do not have God’s perspective and are not guided by His wisdom.

God has prepared a great banquet just for people like this. He offers them everything they need. They just need to accept His invitation.

Clearly, the response is up to each person. Some reject His invitation and suffer the consequences. But those who accept will gain God’s wisdom: “If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit.” They will realize the rewards of doing things God’s way: “Correct the wise, and they will love you. Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.”

They gain wisdom when they humble their lives before God: “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.” Knowing Him “results in good judgment” and brings blessing: “Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life.”

Today, remember that God offers you His wisdom. It is like a great banquet that is all prepared, filled with good things. His instructions are “perfect, reviving the soul.” His decrees are “trustworthy.” They can transform the simple and make them wise (Psalm 19:7).

How will you respond? Will you accept His invitation, and come to the banquet?
