The Dense Cloud

God appeared to Moses in the midst of a cloud that was “dense.” The Hebrew word here implies depth and layers, and dimensions not perceivable on the surface. It was from this perspective that God spoke with Moses, giving him words that he alone understood.

He also told Moses that He would “come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you.” Thus, God promised to transform Moses as well as his relationship with other people. His words would be different and have unusual impact. He would be transformed, with a changed countenance, speaking with greater authority.

God often works in this way. Not always speaking in ways that seem easy to understand. He calls each of us to spend time with Him, “in the dense cloud.” These are times and places to be alone with Him. Where He can take us deeper, into dimensions not obvious on the surface.

In these moments we are called to focus on Him, freed from distractions, concentrating on Him. There, in this “dense cloud,” we are drawn apart to be with Him, where He can draw back the veil and reveal the secrets to mysteries and revelations others may never grasp.

When we respond to this call to dwell with Him, we may see and hear things others don’t understand. Insights that only can come from God. He can give us His perspective on the world, and our lives. He can deepen our faith as we become more confident about Him. And we will be able to speak with greater authority, and with more impact.

In your life, remember the importance of spending time alone with God. Ready to enter into His “dense cloud.” Carefully listening. Sensitive to His words. Ready to be changed.
