The Beast

The Beast

A recent television series pictured a lighthearted collaboration between good and evil. The story was described as “a tale of the bungling of Armageddon that features an angel, a demon, an eleven-year-old Antichrist, and a doom-saying witch.”

It describes a time when the earth is “about to end…Everything is going according to the Divine Plan…except that someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist. Can our heroes find him and stop Armageddon before it’s too late?” Describing the book on which the series was based, one critic commented, “The Apocalypse has never been funnier.” Another called it “hilariously naughty.”

To many in the world, stories like this can entertain. But the Bible gives us a different perspective. Here we see a beast who seems invincible, with power to amaze and inspire. The Bible describes a second beast who had authority to make people “worship the first beast” (v. 12). He “performs great signs” which help him deceive “those who dwell on the earth” (v. 13-14).

Many in the world make light of these images. But the Bible gives us these pictures to help us realize these forces are real and harmful. Stay alert to their deceptive power and never take them for granted.

In your life, stay alert. Don’t give in to deception. Don’t be fooled by those who make light of evil. Remember that through Jesus, you have power and authority. You are a victor.
