Strong in the Lord

Facing the uncertainties of life, many people feel forced to look out for themselves for security. They obsessively worry about accumulating resources, or focus on governments or armies.

These are reasons to remember that Jesus taught about the temporary nature of things in the world, encouraging us to “store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19-20).

The Bible reminds us that “this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave” (1 John 2:17). Instead, we should look to God for our security (Proverbs 3:26).

God told Jeremiah that “cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and turn their hearts away from the Lord.” In contrast, “blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence” (Jeremiah 17:5-7).

Everything is different when we are strong in the Lord. When we depend on Him, we can draw from His inexhaustible resources. We even get stronger every day, because He has no limits.

Today, think about the people and things on which you are depending. Are you looking to your investments? Your job or abilities? Are you depending on the government or economy? Other people? The Bible reminds you of all the reasons you need to trust in God. Other people may fail you but God always is faithful.

As you set your mind on seeking God, the Bible promises that He will give you happiness and direct your path. He can make “the Valley of Weeping” into “a place of refreshing springs.” Make sure that you are strong in Him.
