Standing Firm

Standing Firm

Judah was threatened by the combined armies of Assyria (Aram) and Israel. They plotted the ruin of Judah and threatened to tear Judah apart, to divide it among themselves. With their united resources, these nations presented what seemed to be an adversary that could not be defeated.

God assured King Ahaz of Judah that He knew their situation. His instructions? “Be careful, keep calm, and don’t be afraid.” He wanted Ahaz to remember that He is greater than any army or nation. He is not intimidated by their threats. Instead of worrying about what they might do, Ahaz needed to trust in God.

But there was a condition: To receive these blessings and protection, King Ahaz and Judah needed to have faith in God. If they did not believe Him, they would not be able to stand firm. Without this level of faith, they would fall and be filled with fear, worry, and anxiety.

The same principles are true for you. You may experience threats and face uncertain conditions. Your adversaries may seem to have overwhelming advantages. They may taunt you and seek to discourage you.

Your hope is to continue trusting in God, look to Him for guidance and help, believe Him, stand on His Word, and stand firm in your faith. No matter what challenges you face, don’t give in to fear or worry. Focus on God. Stand on His promises. Trust in Him.
