Safe and Secure

Feeling vulnerable and insecure, David urgently appealed to God for protection. His first response was to refocus away from his insecurity and focus on God: “I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing’” (v. 2).

Others might respond to dangers by running away or abandoning their faith. But David resolved to remain faithful, depend on God, and find security in Him.

He realized that God would give him direction and put him in a space where he could inherit more of His promises and enjoy His blessings: “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance” (v. 6).

His heart was full of praise as he realized that God would continue to guide and teach him. He would continue to focus on God, trusting in Him: “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken” (v. 8).

God would give him a glad heart, take away his fears, and give him confidence, stability, and security. His fears would be replaced by a life filled with God’s blessings. His uncertainty was replaced by direction: “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand” (v. 11).

Make sure that you focus on God. Remember, His Word promises peace, rest, joy, pleasure, confidence, and security.
