Ready to Do God’s Will

God gave Jonah a specific assignment: To preach to the people in Nineveh. But Jonah did not want to go. It didn’t matter what God said; he simply didn’t want to go. Running away, he found himself thrown overboard by the sailors aboard the ship on which he was sailing.

Swallowed by a great fish, Jonah had an opportunity to reflect on his life. He admitted that he “had lost all hope.” Suddenly everything became clearer. He realized that his actions were futile, unless He followed God, and served Him.

Jonah realized that there was no hope or fulfillment apart from Him. Realizing that salvation comes from God alone, he became willing to do what He wanted him to do.

God may allow us to come to these kinds of points of desperation—times when we have gone our own way but discovered that our plans don’t work out. When we come to the end of ourselves.

In these moments, we begin to recognize why we need to obey God and follow His call. We find hope, meaning, and fulfillment when we’re committed to following Him. When we trust Him and seek to do His will.

In your life, remember that God has a plan for you. He has specific assignments He wants you to complete, and has given you the resources you need. He looks for your response. Your decision.

In this moment, recommit your life to serving God. Be sensitive to His leading. Be ready to respond when He calls.
