Protection for the Family

In the process of bringing freedom to the Israelites, God struck Egypt with plagues. In various ways, the Pharaoh had refused to release them—until the final plague. This plague would strike at the heart of every family, with the death of every firstborn son (Exodus 11:4-7).

God made a way for the Israelites to be spared, but they needed to take action. They were to take lamb’s blood “and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it” (v. 7). The blood was to be their protection…and no harm came to any family that obeyed God’s direction.

This action has symbolic importance for Believers today. Throughout the Bible, the “house” is a symbol of the family. And, for Believers, Jesus is the Passover Lamb (John 1:29).

Just like the lambs on that first Passover, the blood of Jesus provides deliverance, salvation, and protection (1 John 1:7, Revelation 1:5). We can “overcome” our adversary because of the “blood of the Lamb” and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:10-11).

The blood specifically has power to protect our families and our homes. The blood provides victory and shields us from every attack of the enemy.

Today, remember that God has given you this vital weapon. Don’t take it for granted or fail to use what God has provided for you.

Claim the blood of Jesus as your protection. Declare the power of His blood over your life and your family. He will give you victory!
