God’s Plans

God’s Plans

To David, it seemed like a good idea. Seeing that “the ark of God remains within tent curtains,” he suggested to Nathan that it was time to build a permanent house for God. Nathan told David to go ahead, “for the Lord is with you” (v. 3).

But neither of these men prayed about this issue or sought God. They simply assumed. To them, it made sense. But God had different plans. Yes, a temple was to be built, but David would not do it. The temple would be built but in God’s time, in His way.

The Bible reminds us that we must never take God for granted. We need to remember that His ways are not our ways. We always need to seek Him. Seek to be guided by Him. Wait on Him, and let Him direct our steps.

Over the centuries, many have failed to learn the lessons God taught David. Many have decided to move forward with their own ideas without seeking Him. And they have paid the price.

The Bible tells us God has plans for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). He looks for those who wait on Him (Psalm 33:18) and seek first His kingdom (Matthew 6:33).

Today, make sure you commit your way to God – every decision, every project. Don’t lean on your own understanding but trust Him to direct your path. And remember to wait on Him!
