God’s Plan

David was confident. He could describe the way the Temple was to be built in vivid detail, filled with specific information about every dimension and object. He knew how everything was to be made.

How could David be so confident? Because God had given him a written plan that included every detail. And because God had given David such details, his son Solomon knew exactly what to do when it was time to build.

David was demonstrating why the written word is so important in our lives. It provides precise words that can be our guide and reference. It gives us God’s infallible standard by which to measure our thoughts, words, and actions.

As we consider our plans and activities, there is great value in writing down our thoughts. Just as they did for Solomon, such plans can guide us and ensure that we remember what we’re to do each step of the way. They provide us with a benchmark for our actions, and they can help us determine if we’ve strayed from the correct path.

This also is a reminder of the importance of God’s Word. It is a constant reminder of His standards. It describes His plan for our lives and gives us a pattern to follow. It provides us with God’s expectations and the standards by which we should judge our lives.

God revealed the depth of His concerns when He told Jeremiah, “I know the plans that I have for you.” These were “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Today, remember that God has a plan for your life. Seek to know His Word. Let it be the rock upon which you base your life.

Also seek God’s direction and guidance through prayer. Ask Him to reveal His plans to you.
