God’s Covenant Blessings

God promised to bless Israel “above all peoples.” He promised that they would be fruitful and healthy!

The Lord was establishing a covenant with them, but there was a vital condition: They had to listen to His Word, keep it, and do it. If they did their part, He would do His part.

God still establishes a covenant with His people. He still is ready to bless us, protect us, and guide us. But we must be faithful to do our part of this covenant relationship. This means knowing His Word and being serious about obeying it. We must make it central to our priorities and decisions.

If we break the covenant by failing to obey God’s Word, His shield of protection is removed and we become vulnerable. But as we listen to His Word and put it into practice, we put ourselves in position to receive the fulfillment of His promises and the richness of His blessings.

Jesus confirmed this principle by stressing the importance of our actions. He taught that we demonstrate our true commitments (and our true attitudes) through what we do. It is not enough just to say, “Lord, Lord.” We’re also told to do “the will of My Father in heaven” (Matthew 7:21-27).

Jesus described how hearing and doing His Word leads to stability. Those who make this commitment are like those who build their house on the rock instead of the sand.

In your life, remember the importance of knowing God’s Word. Study the Word. Meditate on it. But don’t stop there. Be a doer of the Word, pleasing to Him.
