"When all the kings of the Amorites … and all the kings of the Canaanites … heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan … their hearts melted, and there was no spirit in them any longer." – Joshua 5:1 NASB
As the Israelites approached the Promised Land, the people in Canaan seemed to have every advantage – resources, knowledge of the land, awareness of the best places to attack and defend, and the ability to study the Israelites and watch what they did.
In contrast, the Israelites had many disadvantages. Having been in the wilderness, they had limited resources and few weapons. They were weary from traveling for so many years. Yet they had one major advantage: God was on their side.
The Canaanites saw evidence of God blessing the Israelites when they heard that He dried the waters of the Jordan River. They knew this was a miracle! If their God could do this, they had no chance against His people!
They were witnessing a people empowered by God, following His leading. They obeyed His Word and had confidence in Him. They trusted Him and did not give in to fear or worry. They believed that He could bring victory even when victory seemed impossible.
God looks for people with this same boldness who are willing to step out in faith and not afraid of what others might say. He looks for people who are willing to trust Him in every situation and who are not intimidated by the obstacles before them.
Be confident that with God on your side, “no weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17). Commit your life to follow Him wherever He leads. Trust Him.
PrayerFather, thank You for being with me. I believe You for victory in every situation I face. Thank You for going before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
