God Is with You

Jacob had every reason to feel vulnerable. To have questions about what to do and what the future would hold. He had stolen the birthright and blessing that rightfully belonged to his brother, Esau, and was being sent to the land of his family, hundreds of miles to the east.

Knowing the possible perils and pitfalls, his father, Isaac, gave him specific instructions, to be careful who he took for a wife. But Isaac knew that Jacob needed God’s help. He prayed that God would bless him, and “make you fruitful and multiply you.” Then, Jacob left on this journey, all alone. In this new environment, he needed God’s protection, guidance, and blessing.

As he journeyed, Jacob decided to camp in a certain place. He had no reason to expect anything unusual. But this was to be a life-changing night, as God gave him a vivid dream.

He saw angels ascending and descending on a ladder that reached to Heaven. And God Himself delivered a message, promising that He would be with him and “will keep you wherever you go.” That He would not leave him.

Wherever he went after that night, Jacob could remember that God was with him. That He could speak to him at any time, even in supernatural ways.

How often might we face similar situations, wondering about our future or having questions about what to do. These are moments to remember that God is with us. We can call on Him anytime. These are moments to be guided by His Word, always sensitive to His presence, listening and available.
