Friendship with God

Today, there are many ways to be a “friend.” In classic terms, these were our most intimate acquaintances. People whom we trust implicitly. In recent years, the idea of friendship has been embraced by social media. Now, people become “friends” with the click of mouse. And we monitor their musings and share their photos, no matter how intimately we know them.

In fact, according to the Pew Research Center, on average, Facebook users have 200 “friends.” But many people have thousands. Some may fit the classic definition of a friend, but some are just sketchy acquaintances. How many of them do people really know?

But the Bible reminds us that, no matter how many friends we have, or how close we might feel to them, none of these relationships can compare to the relationship we can have with
God. He is a friend who “sticks closer than a brother.”

He is with us through both happy and sad times, when we are lonely and afraid, when we succeed and fail. He is there to encourage us, comfort us, teach us, and protect us. Other people may fall short or disappoint us, but God will never let us down. He never slumbers or sleeps. He is with us any time of the day.

Today, spend time with God and tell Him every detail of your needs. Read His Word, and listen to His voice. Fellowship with Him. You can be confident that He is with you every minute of this day, and every day. He is closer than a brother. He is available to comfort you, strengthen you, and give you more of His wisdom. And He desires to have an intimate relationship with you.

Right now, He is waiting for you. And remember: He is your best Friend!
