Drawing Right Conclusions

Drawing Right Conclusions

Haman was confident. He has risen to prominence in Persia and seemed to have the blessings of the king. He also was sure about his own discernment. He felt he understood the times and that his conclusions always were correct.

We see this arrogant confidence after he received an invitation from Esther to attend a banquet. He assumed that her invitation was a complement. To him, this was further proof of his exalted position in the kingdom. But, in fact, his understanding was not just incorrect but completely the exact opposite of her intention.

Haman had made a common mistake: Taking things for granted. Blinded by his own arrogance, he did not realize that this banquet would lead to his demise, and that the invitation was part of a plan to discredit him and reverse his plans.

How often we can be trapped into making similar mistakes. Like Haman, it can be easy to have a distorted perspective and allow our prejudices to blind us to the facts. We can easily jump to incorrect conclusions.

These are reasons why we must seek to stay humble before God. To be people of prayer, always aware of our human limitations. Realizing that we only see a part of every situation (1 Corinthians 13:12). That we need to be people of prayer, and seek His wisdom and discernment. To get His help to draw the right conclusions.

And we need to be aware how easily we can be so sure, but yet so wrong. How easily we can be manipulated by the praise of others. How easily we can be trapped by pride or arrogance. And why we always need to commit everything we do to God. To seek His wisdom, and His help to make the right decisions.
