Double Blessings

God told Elijah to anoint Elisha “as prophet in your place.” So he “threw his mantle” on Elisha. Just before being taken up into Heaven, Elijah asked Elisha if there was anything else he wanted.

Elisha requested something that Elijah knew was a “hard thing.” He didn’t just want a few blessings or a little power. He asked for a “double portion” of the spirit that was upon Elijah’s life. Confirming Elijah’s word, as Elisha saw the chariot carrying Elijah departing into Heaven, he realized that his request was granted.

As he approached the Jordan River, Elisha decided to see if he had received this “double portion.” He took the mantle he had been given and struck the waters. Immediately, the waters were divided and he walked across. Elisha knew that God had answered his prayers. And throughout his ministry he was able to do miraculous things.

Elisha had tapped into a principle that is true in every area of our lives: that God rewards those who have faith. Who believe that “nothing is impossible” with God (Luke 1:37). That “all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23). Who believe that God is not only ready to bless us in the spiritual realm, but also in our finances and physical bodies, our mind, and emotions.

How big is your faith? Are you asking God for big things, or just small ones? Are you really expecting Him to answer your prayers? As you pray, remember that God does not have limits, and that with Him, nothing is impossible. He has asked us to be bold, to ask Him boldly in faith, to believe Him for miracles, and to expect answers.
