What’s Happening to Your Family?

While the ongoing assault on families has been well documented in America, the attack is actually worldwide. Many believe the roots of this disintegration began more than 60 years ago with the end of World War II and the beginning of unprecedented prosperity.

In America in particular, as prosperity and abundance multiplied, and the nation’s standard of living skyrocketed, there also came a “leanness into their soul” (Psalm 106:15). Faith in God was slowly replaced with the love for—and the pursuit of—wealth, possessions, recreation, and social status.

For many, the pursuit of wealth and self-fulfillment became a religion into itself. This actually resulted in a time of great stress for families. Now, many homes are breaking down under increasing financial, emotional, and spiritual challenges and pressures; and a type of chaos has ensued.

Fortunately, with a simple change in focus—a focus away from the way of the world and back into the way of God— you can again find a safe haven within your family.

A Renewed Commitment

As families make a commitment to see God’s glory abide in their homes, and as parents make the commitment to pray for their children to become all that God created them to be, your Heavenly Father is faithful to create something beautiful and fruitful in your life.

He works beyond your faults, your failures, and your shortcomings. He answers the cries of your heart to be the woman, man, child, and yes, family that will honor Him on this earth.

By His grace and through the power of His Holy Spirit, Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulations” (John 16:33) from all sorts of outside influences. So, how does God expect you to honor Him when there are so many challenges facing the family unit in today’s culture?

Your duty—and privilege—is to model the humility of Christ, even in the midst of the toughest challenge, when it comes to the design of your family.

Remember, as a child of God, washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, you’re a member of the most important family in heaven and earth. It is God’s family. As your Heavenly Father, He will guide you through any challenge you face, if you allow Him.

If you’re facing challenges in your family today, lift your voice to Him in prayer. Ask Him for His divine counsel and guidance to put your family’s focus back on Him and away from worldly distractions.
