Bible Say About Heaven

What Does the Bible Say About Heaven?

During my high school years, I attended youth group at church where we learned a song about the afterlife called “Heaven Is a Wonderful Place” by Ernie Rettino and Debby Kerner. This tune was sung with two different melodies that blended together. You may remember it:

Heaven is a wonderful place
Full of mercy and grace
I want to see my Savior’s face
Heaven is a wonderful place
I want to go there!

Now that my father has graduated into eternity, I think more about heaven than I ever have before. My favorite passage comes from the book of Revelation.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:4-5, ESV)

What is Heaven Like?

Like me, you have probably wondered what heaven will be like. Here is what the Bible tells us about the eternal home of those who ask Jesus Christ to be their Savior.

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. (Rev. 21:21-22, ESV)

Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. (Luke 12:33, NLT)

And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43, NASB)

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2 Corinthians 5:1, ESV)

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? (John 14:2, ESV)

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.” (Matthew 6:19-20, NASB)

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14, ESV)

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. (1 John 3:2, NKJV)

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all… (Hebrews 12:22-23, ESV).

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:9-10, ESV)

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. (1 Cor. 2:9, NLT)

Sounds like a wonderful place, doesn’t it? I don’t know about you, but I want to go there! How about you?
