Say Goodbye to Poverty

by Don Gossett

Your words hold the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21). No wonder they are also a powerful tool in claiming God’s promises for financial blessings. If you find yourself discouraged about your financial predicament, you can reverse the curse of poverty and find new abundance by declaring these six truths from Scripture:

“I am finished with poverty.”

Poverty is not your friend, and it’s not God’s will for your life. Poverty produces distress, embarrassment, and all sorts of other difficulties. Those things no longer need to be your experience! You’re told in 3 John 1:2, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Because you’re called to prosper in all things, words like insufficient and inadequate must be banished from your vocabulary.

“In Jesus, abundance is mine.”

Jesus came to give you “life, and that…more abundantly” (John 10:10). The abundant spiritual life you’re given in Christ will also overflow in physical and material blessings.

“Never again shall I confess lack.”

Paul wrote in Philippians 4:19, “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” As Jesus proclaimed at the beginning of His ministry, He was anointed “to bring good news to the poor” and announce that “the time of the Lord’s favor has come” (Luke 4:17-19 NLT). Make a decision to receive this good news about God’s favor today!

“God will open the windows of Heaven for me.”

Malachi 3:10 is just one of the Bible’s many promises that God will satisfy you, shower you with blessings, replenish you, and bless you with overflowing abundance. Your Heavenly Father is not impoverished, and He doesn’t want you or His other children to be poverty-stricken either. Instead of delighting in your lack, the Bible says God delights in your prosperity (Psalm 35:27 NASB).

“I will resist the devil, and he must flee from me.”

The Scriptures warn that Satan is a devourer, thief, and destroyer. He seeks to consume your resources, deplete your money, and sap your strength. Yet you don’t need to be ignorant of the devil’s schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). When your life is submitted to God, the Bible promises that Satan must flee when you resist Him (James 4:7).

“I will be rewarded with plenty.”

Proverbs 3:9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.” Instead of lack or a hand-to-mouth existence, you’re promised “plenty” when you meet these conditions. As you become a cheerful giver, God will give back with “good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38). He will take you from the land of not enough or barely enough to the land of more than enough!

Dear friend, God watches over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12). You can go ahead and thank Him in advance for the overflowing abundance that’s on its way. As an act of faith, reach out your open palms to your Heavenly Father and begin to receive your incredible inheritance from Him.

Remember that what you say is what you’ll get. So I urge you to regularly confess the Lord’s promises. Declare that He is faithful and that He has given you faith for your finances. Then say goodbye to poverty, once and for all.
