Psalm 121: The Lord Will Watch Over You

by Melissa Henderson

In joy and in sorrow, we can find comfort knowing God is watching over us. He is with us at every moment. When help is needed, when peace seems far away, we can go to Him and seek shelter. When joy is plentiful, we can go to Him with thanksgiving and praise. He is always watching over us. Find rest in Him. Read Psalm 121. Share time with Him.

Psalm 121 NIV
1  I lift up my eyes to the mountains-
where does my help come from?
2  My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3  He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4  indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5  The Lord watches over you-
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6  the sun will not harm you by day
nor the moon by night.
7  The Lord will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;
8  the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

The Bible is the Word of God. Through Scripture, we can seek and find comfort and peace. In Psalm 121, we are shown the picture of someone lifting their eyes up to the mountains, asking where help comes from. Looking upward, seeking answers.

The Lord helps us. He is the Maker of heaven and earth.

What comfort we have knowing He watches over us in every moment. God never pauses or becomes distracted. He never puts aside His love and protection.

The Lord keeps His promises. Yes, there will be struggles in this earthly life. Yes, good times and bad times will arrive and leave. Our strength is found in seeking and finding God.

Perhaps you have heard these words or thought them yourself. “What is happening? How will I get through this situation? I need help.”

Through each struggle, whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual, God is with us. He never leaves our side. He watches over us. I have found His comfort while waiting for medical test results, caring for aging parents, praying for a prodigal child and many other times.

I feel His comfort during times of joy as well. Giving praise and thanksgiving during times of struggle and times of joy brings a closer relationship with God.

When stress enters my mind, I go to Him in prayer. Turning my worries over to God has proven time and time again, to be the best decision. Trying to handle troubled moments on my own has proven fruitless.

Does God want me to go to Him with minor concerns or just the big concerns of life?

The answer is that God wants a relationship with us in all moments.

From Biblical times to current times, God has shown and continues to show His love and glory. He waits with open arms for us to seek a relationship with Him.

The next time someone asks “Where does help come from?” Answer with the love and compassion of God. Share Psalm 121.

Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.

The Lord watches over us in every moment. Amen.
