God’s Faithfulness

Did winter ever not end? Did spring ever not come? Not in my lifetime, and probably not in yours. Unless you live someplace above the Arctic Circle, spring is always faithful to come. Yet even there spring still comes, only it looks a lot different than it does in more temperate climates. But even above the Arctic Circle the weather gets warmer, most of the snow melts and the color green faithfully appears on the ground.

I admit, sometimes winter can seem long and drawn out, especially for those who like warm weather. But God faithfully carries us through the winter. Just as He remembers the sparrows, the finches and the cardinals with His winter provision, God remembers us as well. And at the end of winter, He brings spring.

Every year in our backyard somewhere between mid-February and the beginning of March we begin to see the long green leaves of our surprise lilies emerge. And about that same time, I begin to hear the birds chirping their courtship songs. Those songs fill the morning air with a magical melody.

Morning after morning, I hear the sound of singing birds continue. Then the daffodils begin to emerge, followed by tulips and blossoming trees. Eventually those trees burst forth with new green leaves.

Never once did I not see this all happen. Even after the coldest winter, God always brought spring in my 50 plus years on this earth. He always makes it happen. And each time God makes spring come, He reveals His faithfulness.

Sometimes, life comes at us hard and we experience a winter in our own lives. Perhaps the car appears to be on its last leg and there’s no money in the savings for a replacement. Or maybe the medical bills keep piling up or we have a wayward child who continues to walk astray despite all the challenges their missteps bring. Or even worse, we or someone we love lies sick in a bed. And despite our best efforts and the doctors’ best efforts, there appears to be no hope.

We may see our situation as completely dire, but there is no dire situation for God. And He is there with us even though it may not appear to be so. In the Bible, Matthew 28 says God is always with us. And His Word also tells us He is faithful. 2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself (NASB).” It’s impossible for God not to be faithful, otherwise He would not be true to Himself.

Even the books way back in the early part of the Old Testament shout of the faithfulness of God. Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and just is He (NASB).”

Sometimes we let our human shortcomings and misunderstandings block our eyes from seeing God’s faithfulness, but when we look, we see it. Even when we find our life passing away, if we believe in Christ and have given ourselves to Him, our death opens the door to a far better life with Him in eternity. Even in death God is faithful!

So, in the days ahead when you open up your window or take a walk outside, examine God’s faithfulness in the spring. You’ll see it everywhere. And remember God always faithfully brings spring, He always remains faithful to you!
