Digging Wells

Digging Wells of God’s Favor

If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. – Isaiah 1:19

Favor often is a reward for obedience. The testimony of a farmer in Texas illustrates this quite well.

The farmer had a close relationship with the Lord and always did his best to obey the voice of the Holy Spirit. One day he was out in his fields and distinctly heard God speak to him: “Go to the back corner of your property and dig for oil.”

This seemed like a strange word of instruction, for the farmer knew there was no oil ever found within 100 miles of his farm. Yet he got the necessary equipment and obeyed.

People thought he was crazy! It probably was like the scene when people mocked Noah for building an ark in the middle of a desert when there was no rain.

Just two days after the digging began, the farmer struck oil. The well began to produce 600 barrels of oil each day, an income of almost $25,000 every day!

Amazing favor, all because this farmer listened to God’s voice and obeyed.

Heaven’s Currency

There’s another necessary ingredient if you are to hear and obey God’s instructions: You must have faith.

You see, Heaven’s currency is faith. Just as every country has its own currency, so does Heaven. The currency of the United States is the dollar, Mexico has the peso, Japan has the yen, and the list goes on. If you’re going to do business in a country, you’ll need to have its currency, and if you want to unleash the blessings of Heaven, you will need to exercise faith.

The Bible says we can receive anything we need through believing God and seeking Him in prayer. As King David discovered, “Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing” (Psalm 34:10).

There’s no substitute for faith if you want to walk in God’s favor. You receive salvation by faith … healing by faith … financial blessings by faith … and increased favor by faith.

Those who seek the Lord and embrace His wisdom are promised a life of abundance: “Those who seek me find me. With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity” (Proverbs 8:17-18 NIV). That’s good news, isn’t it?

As you seek Him and obey His instructions, God will do the impossible in your life. You can live in the land of promise today, a land of favor and increase. Who knows what kind of “well” He may call you to dig?
