Christian Leaders Pay Tribute to Ravi Zacharias

by Dr. Craig von Buseck

Around the world, Christian Leaders are sharing tributes to Ravi Zacharias who passed away at age 74. In a statement on their ministry website, his daughter, Sarah Zacharias Davis, wrote: “My dad’s humility, grace, tenderness for people, and above all love for the Lord are forever imprinted on my mind, my heart, and my life. His love for our family will be impossible to replace until we join him in heaven one day.”

Franklin Graham posted on Facebook, honoring Zacharias’ life. “For those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ, we will see him again on the other side of the river,” Franklin Graham shared. “Ravi shared the truth of God’s Word with millions worldwide, ‘so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father’ (Philippians 2:10-11). Ravi will be greatly missed—join me in praying for his family and loved ones in their loss.”

Charisma News shared a quote from Michael Ramsden, president of Ravi Zacharias International Ministry. “[Ravi] saw the objections and questions of others not as something to be rebuffed, but as a cry of the heart that had to be answered. People weren’t logical problems waiting to be solved; they were people who needed the person of Christ. Those who knew him well will remember him first for his kindness, gentleness and generosity of spirit. The love and kindness he had come to know in and through Jesus Christ was the same love he wanted to share with all he met.”

In an interview with CBN News, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany shared the impact that Zacharias had on her life.”He put a philosophical and academic rationale for the heart that I had for Christ, but gave me the ability to go to Oxford, where there are renowned atheist scholars who try to say there’s no intellectual undergirding for Christianity. Ravi Zacharias, who happened to have an office at Oxford was the person who provided the counter to that, the intelligence behind why we believe what we believe.”

Recently Tim Tebow went onto Instagram to pay tribute to the man whom he considered his ‘hero of the faith.’ “I think it’s really important in life to have heroes, and especially in the faith. One of my heroes of the faith is a man named Ravi Zacharias. I’m so grateful for Ravi and his life and our friendship. And everything that he has helped mentor me in.”

Filmmaker Dallas Jenkins, wrote on his Facebook, “Talking to Ravi Zacharias was the closest thing I’ve ever experienced to looking into the face of Jesus. Obviously, he’s not Jesus, and he was the first to say he was a flawed, sinful man, which is why he needed Jesus. But in his eyes and demeanor was a kindness, authenticity, strength, gentleness, and wisdom I’ve simply never experienced before. And even though he met thousands of people every year, he still asked questions about my life and would remember details when he followed up later. He was as impressive in person as he was publicly.”

Fellow apologist, Lee Strobel wrote on Twitter: “Mourning our loss of @RaviZacharias but grateful he is now safe in the arms of his beloved Savior. Such a towering intellect, such a kind and caring gentleman. Thankful for his life of serving and proclaiming Christ.”
