The Bible describes faith not only as a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8), but also as a choice on our part. For example, Proverbs 3:5 commands, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
This means we all have an important moment-to-moment decision to make: Will we believe the promises of God or depend on our own intelligence and reasoning instead?
For example, as someone who has personally witnessed supernatural healings on nearly every continent, I’m always amazed when someone raises the question of whether God still heals people today. Whether you need a healing in your body or from the scars of emotional wounds, God wants you to know He is willing and able to heal you.
Yes, God is in the miracle-working business today, just as He was in the days when Jesus walked the earth in Bible days:
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
This means the same healing power that touched lives 2,000 years ago is available to YOU and your loved ones today! And healing is only one of the fantastic promises the Lord has given you in His Word.
In Matthew 6:10, Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Have you ever thought about what things are like in Heaven? There is no pain, sin, loneliness, poverty, or sickness in Heaven, so we can know for sure that God’s perfect will is to set His people free from such things.
Will we sometimes face a battle for our health or some other challenge to our faith? Of course. At such times, we must understand who we are in Christ and learn to exercise the authority we’ve been given by our Father. We need to know that the same Holy Spirit who was operating in the life of Jesus is operating in us (Romans 8:11).
Destroying the Devil’s Works
Jesus came to “destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8), and this means we can have victory over sin, disease, depression, poverty, and every other attack of the enemy.
So why do people sometimes suffer with sickness and pain even after they are prayed for? Although I don’t claim to understand each and every situation, I know that healing sometimes is delayed because of God’s timing or our need to persevere in faith. We shouldn’t get discouraged if we don’t see an instantaneous miracle every time we pray for healing.
I’ve also seen times when God’s healing power was blocked by unresolved sin or disobedience. At the cross, Jesus defeated both sin and sickness (1 Peter 2:24). But if we expect to access His healing power, we must also make a commitment to turn from any known areas of disobedience.
Finally, the truth will set us free (John 8:32), so it’s crucial to embrace the truth about God’s desire to heal us and give us other blessings. Often God’s blessings are often blocked because of unbelief.
I encourage you today to resolve in your heart that you will believe the promises of God for healing and for every other blessing your Heavenly Father wants to give you. Use your spiritual authority over the devil’s work. Keep standing in faith, choosing to believe God to fulfill His Word!
