Don’t you just love celebrating the Fourth of July?
The smell of burgers and hot dogs sizzling on the grill? The sight of fireworks bursting in the night sky? Playing games and enjoying friends and family?
I think we all do. But, yet, how often do we forget what the holiday is really all about?
Samuel Adams, the father of the American Revolution, once said signing the Declaration of Independence meant no longer serving a king in England, but rather, serving our Almighty God.
As a result, citizens of America were free from submitting to the power of man and could pursue Christ with their whole heart. What an incredible day in history this was!
It is such a blessing that we have the freedom to serve Christ and Him alone.
Often, however, the enemy will try to keep us from doing this, using distractions and lies to get us to lose sight of our liberty in Christ.
Because of what Christ did for us, we have the freedom to choose His life over sin and to boldly declare our faith to others.
Hallelujah! Because of His sacrifice of us, praise God, we can celebrate each day of our lives enjoying freedom from the bonds of our enemy.
With this in mind, I encourage you to not lose sight of why we celebrate Independence Day.
Take time to reflect on the ways God has blessed you in your life, and make it a goal to not take the freedom we have for granted.
As you spend this day with family and friends, I encourage you to celebrate the blessing of freedom that was given to us by Christ.
May you have a true revelation of His overwhelming love for you. And, may you experience His freedom and joy as you seek His presence daily.
God bless you,
